“Becoming Happiness Angels”
The emotional wounds were fresh. The pain and agony were still a part of my talks in 2012. The word and the disease had left an indelible impression, only, letting the time to allow to change the perception associated with it.
CANCER – A disease that would give anyone goosebumps, for there is excruciating pain involved. When a family member suffers, the whole family suffers. This happened with me, when Papa was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. However, his illness allowed me to embark on the journey of knowing the truth about birth and human existence. Now, I know the TRUTH. I know who I am-Sat Chit-Ananda! Sheer bliss, thanks to the disease and the journey.
I was working at Ansal University as an Assistant Professor. It was there, when one fine day, Dr CS Nagpal, Vice Chancellor at that time, introduced me to Satish Kaushik Sir, Founder of Rajbala Foundation. There was an immediate connect that we felt, for both of us had lost our beloved family member and there was an inner urge to outpour and share our experiences.
Since then, under the aegis of Rajbala Foundation we organised events for Cancer Patients and for Mental Wellbeing of many in need. In pursuit we also got baptized as ‘Happiness Angels’.
A flash mob at Medanta by students, engaging the crowds, spreading awareness and signing a pledge to spend quality time with their parents, as a part of the Care For Elders Campaign. Sessions of poetry that healed our heart and soul or talks and discussions on various topics of interest that allowed us to express our gratitude-the foundation always provided us a platform to connect meaningfully to causes that we believe in.
‘Being a volunteer at Rajbala Foundation allowed me to understand myself better. My needs and wants. What gives meaning to me. How I am part of a society. How being part of a like minded community heals and helps in the times of need and crisis.’
The journey has been beautiful and lovely so far, full of lessons and learning. I am sure in days to come, we shall have many opportunities to grow, contribute, serve and connect to the cause we all individually believe in.
“A sigh or a pain
A laughter or a giggle
In everything that life shall unveil
We shall be happy and together!”
