A FEW DAYS MORE has been produced and directed by Mr O.P.Srivastava of Reelism Films.

In an engaging story format, the film tries to explore the world of cancer treatment to unravel the lesser known and more meaningful ways of dealing with life limiting diseases like cancer.

SYNOPSIS: The film throws light on various medical, social, psychological, emotional, financial and spiritual challenges faced by a family in dealing with a situation, in which they hopelessly watch a dear member of the family gradually succumb to brain cancer.

The film tries to show up the underbelly of modern day technology-overloaded cancer management system and explores the reasons for the differential attitude of the medical fraternity towards the less glamorous and more humane practice like Palliative care, which aims at treating the person in a holistic manner rather than focusing only on the disease by using the high cost, aggressive and technologically driven modern medical practices.

In spite of the much hyped billions of dollars being spent on the advancement of technology and research in the area of cancer treatment, the reality at the ground level has not changed significantly for the common person.  On the contrary, the fast expanding universe of cancer patients has provided a huge business opportunity for the medical fraternity to make more and more money from the sufferings and pain of the hapless millions across the world.  While highlighting the need to add life to the years of the these millions of hapless human beings who are forced to wither away the last days of their life within the closed confines of their four walls, the films tries to bring into focus more economical and humane treatment practices, which are not being allowed to become a part of mainstream treatment regime by the vested interests in the industry.

The film makes an attempt to highlight the need and the advantages of using a lesser known and less privileged medical science called Palliative care, which believes in treating the patient as well as the family at the emotional, social, psychological and spiritual level thereby providing a more meaningful and holistic treatment during the last days of a terminally ill patient. The message has been cinematically presented as an engaging story so as to hold the attention of a common viewer for about seventy five minutes or so.

REQUEST A SCREENING

Outreach Program

We would like this film to be used for advocating the use of Palliative care as a part of the mainstream treatment for the life limiting diseases. The target domain to reach out is the medical fraternity, non-profits, Government agencies and the masses. Through this film we wish to raise the awareness of a common person with regard to the challenges involved in dealing with a life limiting disease like cancer.

It is proposed to structure an outreach program consisting of a series of film screenings coupled with talks of practitioners of palliative care to propagate the message of holistic treatment, while the common person needs to be reached out through mass communication media like TV, public screenings, press etc.

We also wish to create an impact on the Government bodies and the Pharmaceutical Industry so as to get favourable treatment for the Palliative Care users and practitioners. The concessions could include:

  1. Making setting up of Palliative care centers mandatory for all cancer treating hospitals
  2. Increasing availability of cheaper medicines like morphine used for pain management in hospitals,
  3. Increasing the number of counsellors in cancer hospitals,
  4. Enhancing training facilities in Palliative care and
  5. Creating more awareness about the science of Palliative care for the masses.
